The freshman class recently completed their study of Adam & Eve by writing and performing their own version of “The Eden Rap”. The students were divided into groups and each group was responsible for a section of verses from the Genesis account.  Students had access to the Drama department’s costuming and props.  Each group was videotaped.  The students were than able to watch their very own music video – Genesis style!

 

“In order to translate the verses into Rap, the students had to really study the biblical account and understand not only it’s meaning, but it’s application in their modern-day world.” stated Bible teacher Mrs. Davis.  She also added, “The freshmen were so creative and hilarious…but I don’t think they will be offered a recording contract anytime soon, unless it’s by Weird Al Yankovich!”  Here is an excerpt from the creative minds of our fabulous freshman:

 

 God looked at the land, and saw that it was bare; empty as could be, from here to there.

So God said, "Yo!  I think I'll make some trees; I'll place them in the banks of the Eu-phratees.

Adam named all the animals, and then he looked around; the animals all came in twos, a partner each had found.

Then Adam said "I need a friend to join me in this life"; so God created woman and called her Adam's wife.

When Adam woke up, he saw the work of God's hand; he took one happy look at her and said, "WO-MAN!"

The woman said "but we can't eat from dat crazy tree!" To that the serpent did reply, "Oh  please!"

If you eat this fruit, you will know good and bad; when God finds out you ate it, He won't be that mad!

"Eat and be like God", Ole Satan said; He left out the part 'bout bein' dead. So the woman tried the fruit and she said "Mmm, this is tasty!" Then she offered it to Adam, (their decision was too hasty!) And then God said, "Who told you you were nude? Have you eaten from the tree?  I told you not to dude!" The man blamed the woman and the woman blamed the snake; nNever trust the snake, he turned out to be a fake! "When you listened to the chick instead of listenen' to me; now upon you, a curse there will be. All your life, you'll have to toil! If you want to eat, you'll have to work the soil."

To the woman God said "you're gonna call me mean; But when you're havin' babies, you're gonna wanna scream. Word.

A Night with Willie Wonka and the Oompa Loompas Junior Senior Banquet 2004-05 By Amber Ferguson; The Eagle's Talon - Volume 4, Issue 7
Candy covered trees, edible mushrooms, dancing Oompa Loompas, lollipop growing grass and a “chocolate” river made the Junior Senior Banquet an unforgettable night. Put on to honor the senior class of 2005, the juniors worked extremely hard to make the dreams of a Willy Wonka Chocolate factory become a reality. With a low budget and only a couple of days, the gym was transformed into an unimaginable and whimsical atmosphere.      “It was a labor of love and the Oompa Loompa dance was off the chain,” said Mrs. Brand.       The senior class was invited to J.S.B with an invitation which included a quarter. Once arriving, the seniors and their guests entered through the Eagle’s Nest.	Transformed into a candy shop, the seniors bought  a Wonka bar with their quarter. After opening their Wonka bar, they all realized they had received golden tickets.  Proceeding into the next room, they were attacked by paparazzi as they entered Wonka’s gates.  At the gate, groups were led by the main characters through the wonkafied rooms. Starting at the contract room, they had to sign Wonka’s contract to enter his magical world. After signing, Wonka showed his guests his lickable wall which was made out of fruit rollups to look like wallpaper. Once they got a good lick they went through the bubble room and they entered the shrinking room.  Through the door of the shrinking room, they were admitted in the chocolate factory. Troy Starn said, “I thought that JSB was a lot of fun because you could get up and walk around and there were things to do. Overall, the juniors did a great job.”             After socializing, Willy Wonka, who was played by Joey Fair, sat everyone down for dinner.    During their meal, a crew of dancing Oompa Loompas hit the stage,  and then it was time for dessert. After dessert there was an open mic for the seniors.  Once all was ended the seniors filled their bags with candies and left with many	memories. Josh Piper said, “Our class is amazing I can’t believe we pulled it off. The seniors are crazy for candy.”        Behind the scenes worked away many parents. JSB would have been nothing if Mrs. Yagi, Mrs. Falke, Mrs. Jerner and Mrs. Falkenberg and the many other hard working people had not taken charge and got things done. The juniors spent lots of hours working in the gym and can’t wait until they get to see their banquet next year. Though it was a lot of work, it was so much fun to work together and accomplish something so big. “Children of the World Choir” Performs at a Special Chapel
On March 17th, the face of the World Help program, “The Children of the World Choir”, performed in a special chapel for our Junior/Senior High School students.  We also invited the Monte Vista Pre-school children to join us for this unique worship opportunity.  Children from six different third world countries performed an energetic concert that was a huge hit on campus.  The children ranged in age from 8to 12 years old and all came from disadvantaged families or orphanages which receive aid from World Help.  According to Steve Hailston, the groups director, our students were the best High School audience they have performed for this year!  The students enthusiastic response included lots of clapping and encouragement as well as appreciative applause after each song.  “Red or yellow, black or white, they were precious in our sight” according to Junior Kelsey Allard.  The students saw an unbridled first love of Jesus Christ demonstrated throughout the performance.  It was definitely one of the highlights of this years chapel schedule thus far.
