TC Tutoring

Teachers and aides assist students with material taught in our regular curriculum. Occasionally, students transfer to TCS or simply do not learn all they should in the regular classroom. Turlock Christian offers tutoring to children needing extra academic assistance. An hourly fee is charged for the tutoring. Most tutoring occurs during regular school hours. Students in the tutoring program are tested every 4 to 10 weeks to assess progress made and establish new goals for tutoring. There is no extra charge for the periodic assessment.

TC Early Identification

Turlock Christian is committed to each child's success. Obviously, children learn at different rates and mature at different times; some learn steadily, while others grow in spurts and plateaus.

When children perceive that they have not learned as much or as quickly as others have,  they doubt their abilities and often feel frustrated. For that reason, Turlock Christian seeks to identify students early that are struggling to learn reading or math and find ways to keep them motivated and encouraged.

Turlock Christian assesses students mid-way through first grade and at the beginning of each new student's stay at TCS. For those missing knowledge or skills, the Learning Center coordinator works with teachers and tutors to set goals and means to achieve those goals.

Most students who receive early tutoring quickly learn missing knowledge and skills and outgrow the need for tutoring within 6 to 24 months. A few students need prolonged assistance from tutors and even less may have significant learning disabilities and need specialized help.

Art

Our elementary teachers offer the Meet-the-Masters art program to our students. Each year first through sixth grade students learn about eight artists as they discover aspects of line, form, texture, color, shadow, etc.

Following their art appreciation lesson, students emulate the style of art for which the artist is known. Each student chooses two of their emulations to display in an art show at the end of the year.

In a three-year cycle, repeated on three levels during elementary school, students learn about twenty-four artists. Much of what they learn, they will remember for life.

Band

At our elementary school, we offer instrumental music. Fourth through sixth grade students may take beginner or advanced band.

Beginning band is for students who have never played an instrument. Then they may join the advanced band as they grow in skill. Usually students participate in beginner band for one year.

Our beginner and advanced bands perform in concerts three or more times each year. More accomplished students may be asked to perform as soloists or in assemblies for special groups and meetings during the year.

Choir

In addition to classroom music where students learn to appreciate and read choral  music, students at Turlock Christian receive choir instruction. Students in kindergarten through sixth grade perform several times per year for local events. Our fourth, fifth and sixth grade honor choir participates in Association of Christian School, International Choral festivals, and also sings for local events.

After-School Sports

Sixth grade students may participate in after school sports. Turlock Christian plays other private schools as well as some smaller public schools.

We offer co-ed soccer and girls volleyball in the fall and boys' and girls' basketball in winter.. Every student who participates receives playing time during each game (unless benched for disciplinary reasons). Coaches emphasize teaching all students to play the sport and developing all students' skills during the elementary school phase of our after-school sports program.

Friday is field trip day! Students travel to various points of interest via bus. Early morning departures and 5:30 pm arrivals are usual. On rare occasions there may be an extra charge associated with these trips.

Rates and fees for summer enrichment are published in our summer enrichment brochure. Call 632-6250 for a brochure.

Speech Meet

All students in first through sixth grade participate in the annual speech meet held in each class. Winners from a variety of speech events compete with other Northern California ACSI schools.
