2008 8th Grade DC Trip

Graduating from the 8th Grade is a momentous occasion in a young person's life!  Completing the 8th Grade truly marks the beginning of the transistion from childhood to young adulthood, as the student prepares to enter high school.

TCJH plans several special events and activities in honor of this year in the life of our 8th graders.  Please continue to visit this page as we will provide information and helpful links for both parents and students on upcoming activities.

JH Principal: Kendall Hanson

10-Day Washington, D.C. Trip: Fall of 8th Grade Year

This 10-Day trip to the East Coast is one of the most awesome experiences in the life of a TC student.  Visiting various unique historical sites, museums, and government buildings allows our 8th graders to 'touch' American History as never before.  Traveling through states such as Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennysylvania, and New York deeply enriches their understanding of our great country's history. This is truly one of the most memorable times they will ever experience!

Special fundraisers are scheduled to help offset the cost of this trip.  The first major fundraiser occurs in the fall when the students are in 7th grade and they sell Cookie Dough. The next major fundraiser is the 4th of July Fireworks Booth.  During the summer before entering 8th grade, students sell fireworks and parents work in the fireworks booth.  A final major Pancake Breakfast fundraiser is usually held in September when the students are in 8th grade. The students sell tickets to the breakfast and their parents help plan, organize, and work alongside students the morning of the event.  Additional smaller fundraisers may be scheduled as needed.

A trip of this magnitude and importance requires lots of adult supervision, so parent chaperones are invited and welcomed. Distribution of DC Trip information begins during the 7th grade year and continues throughout the summer and into the 8th grade year. Be sure to visit this page frequently for up-to-date information, check your mailbox for mailings, and visit our Calendar for scheduled DC meetings. Also, be sure to check the links above for important information.

Yearbook Information: Ads & Photos

Parents, grandparents, other family members...are invited to place personal and/or business ads in our yearbooks. Business ads help to promote TC families, and personal notes to students add that special touch to our yearbook. It's also a great way to congratulate your 8th Grader on their JH graduation. Many parents have honored their child by including a Baby Photo along with a current photo. Other ideas? Place an ad with your child and their best buddy and split the cost! Advertise your business by placing an ad! Limited space is designated for ads, so it is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Special Yearbook Section

1) The TCJH Yearbook Staff is working on a special section for the 8th graders. We are requesting 2-3 BABY/TODDLER pictures of your child. The remaining pictures not used in the Yearbook will be used during the slideshow at the 8th Grade Banquet next May. Please bring into the school office 2-3 BABY/TODDLER pictures by Monday, November 30th, placing them in an envelope and labeling the envelope and pictures with your students name, noting also on the outside of the envelope, ATTN:JH YEARBOOK.

2) If you or your child took photos during the Washington, D.C. trip, please place 25 of your favorite pictures on a CD and drop the CD off at the school office, labeled "D.C. Pictures/ATTN: JH Yearbook". We have a 6-page spread spotlighting our DC trip, as well as a slideshow at next May's 8th Grade Banquet. We would like to get a variety of pictures to make sure everyone is included. Thank you!

3) Yearbook personal/business ads are now on sale. Submission deadline is Monday, November 30, 2009 or sooner if ad pages fill up...so, don't delay!  Complete this form for Ad Submissions and return with payment (checks payable to TCS) to the JH/HS Office. If pictures are not provided on a CD, please provide a self-addressed envelope so we can return the original photo(s).

Ad Sizes and Prices: 1/8 page = $30      1/4 page = $45      1/2 page = $75      full-page = $125

4) If you have any photos of JH students in action, please upload them to the Jostens yearbook website link below, so we can include them in this year’s yearbook! We especially need special events and sporting event photos.  Pictures can be uploaded any time before January 31, 2010.  Jostens Website for uploading TC Yearbook Photos: https://images.jostens.com/; User ID: 400002917; Password: eagles2010

Graduation Gowns

When it's time to order graduation gowns, (March), letters will be mailed to each 8th grade family. Cost is generally around $25. Checks may be made out to TCS and brought in to the High School secretary. You do not need to purchase a gown if you want to wear a gown from an older sibling who graduated from TCSJH. Purchased gowns are available for pick-up at the 8th Grade Banquet.

8th Grade Banquet

Each May, prior to 8th Grade Graduation, a special banquet is planned and put on by our 7th Grade students and their parents in honor of our 8th Grade Graduates. The Banquet is centered around a specialized theme and the evening includes a delicious dinner, special memoribilia, and a slide show presentation, showcasing our graduates with baby photos and current pictures. This wonderful evening sets the stage for the upcoming graduation ceremony. This year's banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 6:30pm, to be held at the MVC Gym.

Graduation Ceremony

The Graduation Ceremony is usually held the last Thursday of the school year. This year's Graduation Ceremony is Thursday, May 27 at 7pm in the MVC Sanctuary (JH Campus). Generally, there is only one graduation practice which takes place the morning of the same day. Graduation pictures are taken prior to the ceremony. Appropriate attire to be worn under graduation robes are as follows: Girls-dress/skirt, dress shoes; Boys-slacks, shirt, tie, dress shoes. No bare feet or flip-flops, please.
