HS Academics - Fine Arts

Art is designed to enable students to develop and master an appreciation for drawing and painting through learned techniques.

Art utilizes an inductive study approach of observation, interpretation, and application which will help the student feel confident with their drawing and painting skills.  Students will analyze images they see, comprehend spatial and proportional concepts, and develop individual style and creativity.

Part of the second semester is devoted to the preparation, research, and writing of a major term paper on events that make the history of art, and to the scholarly discipline that deals with these events.

The students in this class prepare and perform two full-length, major productions each school year (Christmas and Spring). School-wide auditions are not used to cast our productions, but rather, each show is cast with whichever students choose to take the class that year, and every attempt is made to give a role to all students in the class. Scripts are selectd to fit the makeup of each year's class.

Music at Turlock Christian prepares young people to make music in their heart, to sing to one another, and to praise their Creator.  (Ephesians 4:17-20; Psalm 96:1-2; Psalm 150:3-6)

As creations of God, we enjoy music personally.  Also, music enhances social experiences, helps us celebrate, and assists us to realize and promote our culture to our audiences.  The most significant audience for which students can be taught to perform is their God.  He delights to hear the praises of His creation.  Therefore, when we teach music we promote students' understanding of their world, enhance social relationships, and give them tools to worship their Creator God.

Classroom music, choir, and band prepare students to understand sound/pitch, resonance, and time in music.  Students learn the history, appreciation of various styles, and theories of music performance and composition.  Attention to music fundamentals allows students to read music and evaluate new music they hear.

Students perform music using the fundamentals learned in the classroom.  Through performances, students demonstrate their understanding of music theory and their acquaintance with various types of music composed in years past while ministering to those who hear them.  Music mixes aural, verbal, and visual messages from composers to communicate aesthetically.

Music programs are planned throughout the school year, with the two main performances being held in December and May.
